Today’s the day. The new ticket prices for Rome’s public transportation went into effect today. Many of you probably heard this was coming, but for those of you who were unaware, we’re sorry to be the bearers of bad news. The new ticket prices will be increasing between 33% – 50%, depending on the type of ticket. This applies to all public transportation … buses, trams, metros and trains.
The most notable of the price hikes will probably be for the single ticket. The €1 ticket valid for 75 minutes, will be increasing to €1.50, although it will be valid for 100 minutes.
Below is a breakdown of the new prices:
- BIT – €1.50 – single use ticket, valid for 100 minutes (old price = €1)
- BIG – €6.00 – valid for 1 day (old price = €4)
- BTI – €16.50 – valid for 3 days (old price = €11)
- CIS – €24.00 – valid for 7 days (old price = €16)
- Monthly – €35.00 – valid for calendar month (old price = €30)
For areas on the outskirts, ticket prices for those zones will also increase. These might be important to you if you plan to take a day trip to Tivoli (Zone 3), or to Civitavecchia to depart on a cruise ship (Zone 5). See the new price charts below.
The new ticket prices go into effect today, May 25th. Tickets purchased prior to today will be valid at their face value until July 31st. From August 1st to October 31st, you will be able to trade in your old ticket and apply the original value toward a new ticket. If you have an annual ticket, it will expire upon the date noted on the ticket.
